E-posters at SfE BES conference

Posters are a great way of getting yourself established as a scientist and presenting your work to your peers, but what happens to them once the conference is over?
This year, the Society for Endocrinology has introduced e-posters, allowing you to present your meticulously transformed data and lovingly fitted curves for eternity. We’ve also set up an internet cafĂ© in the exhibition area where you can upload your poster and view others.
Don’t forget to upload your e-poster via the SfE BES website - http://www.endocrinology.org/meetings/2012/sfebes2012/abstracts.aspx.

Only two weeks to go…

…and we can barely contain ourselves! Excitement is mounting as we get ever closer to the biggest conference on endocrinology in the UK, and below are some of the reasons why.

We’re introducing an e-poster facility to this year’s conference: if you’ve had a poster accepted keep an eye on your email inbox - you’ll be invited to submit an e-poster later this week.

We’ll be discussing the Society’s progress and its exciting plans for the future at the SfE Annual General Meeting, 08:10 on Wednesday 21 March in the Main Auditorium. Come along to have your say.

And as always you'll find some of the best of UK and international basic science and translational research, clinical investigation and clinical practice in endocrinology. Don’t forget you can register to attend the Society for Endocrinology BES 2012 meeting online at http://www.endocrinology.org/meetings/2012/sfebes2012/registration.aspx.

We look forward to seeing you in Harrogate. If tweeting about the SfE BES 2012 conference you can use the hashtag #sfebes12 to join the conversation.

Put your burning questions to our ‘Meet the Expert’ sessions

SfE’s new and popular ‘Meet the Expert’ sessions will again be taking place at this year’s SfE BES Meeting. We’ve brought in experts from across the UK to discuss specific topics in basic research and clinical practice, and we want you to drive the debate.

To make the sessions as interesting, relevant and varied as possible we’re inviting you to submit a case or issue to present to the expert at each session. Synopses should be 300 words, and should be based around issues with new research technologies (for the basic science sessions) or practical aspects of research, diagnosis and/or management (for the clinical sessions) in one of the topics described below.

Optogenetics: controlling cells with light (Expert: Rudolf Allemann (Cardiff), Wednesday 21 March)

All you need to know about CHIP-sequencing (Expert: J Carroll (Cambridge), Wednesday 21 March)

Therapeutic management of adults with CAH (Expert: W Arlt (Birmingham), Tuesday 20 March)

Amiodarone (Expert: M Vanderpump (London), Tuesday 20 March)

Preventing and managing long term complications of acromegaly (Expert: K Meeran (London), Tuesday 20 and Thursday 22 March)

Management of persistent TSH elevation in hypothyroid patients (Expert: A Allahabadia (Sheffield), Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 March)

The surgical approaches to MEN1 - what the endocrinologist needs to know (Expert: B Harrison (Sheffield), Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 March)

Prioritising therapy in neuroendocrine tumours (Expert: C Toumpanakis (London), Thursday 22 March)

Regulating periods and optimising fertility in PCOS (Expert: C Duncan (Edinburgh), Thursday 22 March)

Past sessions have proved highly successful, so don’t miss your chance to discuss your work with a world-leader in the field - submit your synopsis to the experts before 6 February 2012 by emailing conferences@endocrinology.org. Have your say – suggest a topic to be covered at the SfE BES conference

Is there an endocrine topic that you would like us to cover at the Society for Endocrinology BES conference?  Do you feel that the endocrine community should know more about your research area?  We are now asking for suggestions from endocrinologists for scientific sessions to be held at the 2013 SfE BES conference, which will take place in Harrogate in March 2013. The deadline for sending us your suggestions is 31 January 2012You can submit your ideas at: http://www.endocrinology.org/meetings/ScientificSessions/.

At the SfE BES conference, we have a number of different types of session designed to suit basic scientists, clinicians and nurses.  These include symposia, meet the expert sessions for basic scientists and clinicians, clinical management workshops, clinical debates and nurse sessions. For ideas on the structure of sessions, have a look at our 2012 programme: http://www.endocrinology.org/meetings/2012/sfebes2012/prog/prog.aspx

To submit your ideas for 2013, you need to provide us with a title and a brief overview of the content that the session should cover.  We also ask you to suggest up to four speakers and one Chair who would be suitable to take part in the session.  However, if you are unable to identify speakers, you may submit just a topic that you would like to know more about.  All suggestions will be discussed by our Programme Committee before final decisions on content are made.

If you have any queries, please email members@endocrinology.org. We look forward to receiving your suggestions.
